About
The Full Story
The Village and Town of Coxsackie are experiencing a renaissance, with new investments in both communities. The Riverside Park enhancements, NY Forward Strategic Investment Plan (SIP) for downtown Coxsackie, revitalization of the Hudson River waterfront, new developments along 9W, and continued housing development in the town have spurred additional growth.

The vision and goals of the 2007 joint Town and Village of Coxsackie Community Plan (comprehensive plan) are still largely relevant today, and many of the plan's action items have been accomplished. Reviewing and updating the existing plan will help Coxsackie (1) continue the momentum, (2) ensure current and future growth aligns with the communities' vision, and (3) identify new action areas. Potential action areas may include redevelopment strategies for West Coxsackie and the 9W corridor, and protections for rural open spaces and farmland.

The comprehensive plan update will examine existing conditions, opportunities, and challenges to chart a course for future growth and investment in both communities. The resulting recommendations will provide a "work plan" for how to achieve the overarching goals of economic growth, community attractiveness, sustainability, and resiliency. The plan will aim to:

-
reinforce the Village and Town as great places to raise a family and retire with a high quality of life;
-
leverage key local assets such as the Hudson River, rich and diverse open spaces, working farms, and small-town atmosphere; and
-
ensure that infrastructure, transportation systems, and land use policies preserve Coxsackie's heritage and provide new choices for housing and commercial development consistent with today's expectations.

The planning process will engage the public to establish an updated vision and recommendations for the next 10-15 years, helping to prioritize and channel available resources in targeted ways.
